Mendes stated that it was hard to deal with this whole situation, which made him more vulnerable.

Shawn Mendes, speaking with Dax Shepard about gay rumours on his Armchair Expert podcast said that it was “so, so frustrating” because of the closeness to gay people in his life.

Shawn Mendes added, “And it felt like this real anger towards those people. It’s a difficult thing. You might say, “I’m not homosexual but it would be fine if I were gay” but you don’t know how to handle the situation.

The Stitches singer said that gay people have been calling him gay since he was 15. When people call me gay, I have to be very messy. I must be f*cking messy. I have to say the wrong things, apologize and then say the right thing. Since I was fifteen years old, everyone has called me gay. I don’t consider myself gay, and I’m confused. I have problems with my voice. I am confused about how to sit. I have a tendency to cross my legs first and then sit in a feminine position.

Shawn Mendes explained further that rumours, as well as his own attitude, led him to be more honest and open about the whole situation.

Mendes stated, “I believe a lot guys go through this and worse, there are just so many gay guys in the closet and must have been hearing sh*t such as that and being like, ‘I’m afraid to come out.’”

The singer spoke out about his female nature and revealed that he grew up with his female cousins. My hair was always braided on New Years Eve. It all depends on how you grew up and what your environment is like.
